Casterton students wear their uniform with pride. The main purpose of having a school uniform is to help students feel a sense of belonging to our school and to avoid peer pressure to wear the latest fashions as well as the expense of doing so. We never want our students to feel judged by their peers on the basis of their family's circumstances, because we believe all young people should have an equal chance in life, regardless of their background. Therefore, our uniform is designed to be simple, smart and inexpensive. For this reason, we also enforce it consistently, not because we want to suppress their individuality, but because we believe everyone should be treated equally. We also provide a Facebook page for the sale of pre-loved items.

Students are expected to wear their uniform smartly when walking around the college and when entering and leaving classrooms. If their tie is missing, they will be sent to student services to get one, at which point they will be asked to hand over their phone as security. If another item of uniform is missing or damaged, they will be issued with a uniform card by their tutor with the expectation that it is resolved the next day. 

After they sit in their classroom, they may ask their teacher if they are allowed to take off their blazer. Coats should not be worn in classrooms. However, when they leave, they should put their blazer back on. When students are outside the building, they may remove their blazers if they wish.

If the weather is exceptionally warm, for a sustained period, e.g. above 30 degrees centigrade, we sometimes make a temporary adjustment where blazers and ties may be carried but not worn. These temporary adjustments are at the school's discretion and will be communicated to parents in advance.

Note that most items in our unform are not bespoke. Only the blazer and tie and striped blazer are bespoke items.
