At Casterton College, we highly value our services children and recognise the unique challenge they face with the transient nature of their parents’ job roles. With three large military bases (RAF Wittering, St George’s Barracks and Kendrew Barracks) situated close by, we are always acutely aware of the need to support these children. Mrs Henriet is our Services Champion. She was raised in a military family, her father served in the Army, and she is married to an RAF Officer.
We work in an effective partnership with the armed forces and the Local Authority to ensure service students receive a high level of quality transition and learning on entry to the college, with ongoing support for both students and their families.
Our armed forces children have the opportunity to attend a group on Thursday lunchtimes where they can share their experiences and network in a safe and understanding environment. We ensure Casterton staff are aware of any upcoming deployments, exercises or extended courses, to ensure the best support possible is given to our armed forces children.
We always look to empower our military children; many of our students are currently participating in research to help contribute to the understanding of their lifestyle. This research allows the forces students to share their experiences and thoughts.
