Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all students’ education. All schools should teach PSHE, drawing on good practice, and this expectation is outlined in the introduction to the proposed new national curriculum.

PSHE & SRE Curriculum at Casterton College Rutland

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) is delivered as part of a timetabled PSHE programme in Years 7-11. All students have one PSHE lessons a fortnight and the lessons are delivered by a dedicated team of PSHE staff. Various PSHE topics are also delivered in tutor periods and within other curriculum subjects.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education. It is a subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for life and work.

The curriculum topics are based on the statutory guidance from the Department for Education and deliver relationships and sex education. It aims to promote healthy lifestyle choices, develop resilience and signpost support for mental ill health, as well as prepare our students to be well-rounded young people who can engage in the wider world. The curriculum is divided into three strands — Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World. The curriculum and topics have been carefully planned, taking account of the age of pupils and ensuring it meets the needs of pupils and parents and reflects the community we serve. The table attached shows the topics and content we cover in each year group.
