School Transport information

Around 70% of our students live outside our catchment and choose to come to Casterton because of its excellent reputation. Another 30% of our students live in Rutland and, providing we are their nearest school, they will be entitled to free school transport. Parents outside the catchment are responsible for organising transport for their children, but fortunately, there are some excellent bus services available. For example, two full buses travel to and from Stamford every day, while another comes from Northants.

If you have any further questions about school transport, please enquire with your local authority.

For full details about the Rutland County Council Transport Team and the services that they offer, information can be found at: https://www.rutland.gov.uk/my-community/transport/school-and-college-transport/

Buses

Buses arrive and leave directly from the campus. Boarding and bus departure is supervised by staff, but students must never run between or in front of the buses. Our staff do not supervise students while travelling on buses. Note that buses leave at 3.50pm Mon-Thurs and 2.45pm on Friday. If your child is staying after school, they will need to be picked up unless they have permission to walk.

Alternatively, students are welcome to walk or cycle.

If cycling, students are asked not to cycle on Ryhall Road. Instead, they should walk their bike down to the zebra crossing and mount after crossing the road. All cyclists must wear a helmet, ensure their bike is in good working order and has proper lights and park in our bike shelter at the front of the college using a secure lock they have purchased.

Drop-offs

There is no drop-off point on the site and parents are asked not to enter the car park areas before or after school when dropping off and picking up. Parents should not park on the grassed areas or in any of the bus lanes or approach paths.

Late pick-ups

Students who are waiting to be picked up must either wait outside in the summer months or in reception in the winter months when it is dark or when the weather is poor. Under no circumstances should students wait outside if it is dark. In the unlikely event that parents are severely delayed, students in reception can contact a member of staff using the radio which is kept on the reception window. Instructions accompany this radio. A member of staff will respond and ensure students are safe until they can be picked up.

No Parent Parking on Ryhall Road

Parents are kindly asked not to park along Ryhall Road as this is dangerous for young people and causes congestion. Please park your car at the bottom of Ryhall Road instead.
