  • Be able to recognise the different types of alcohol and be aware of the strength of them in units
  • Understand the immediate effects alcohol has on the body and the risks whilst under the influence
  • Be able to describe the effects of alcohol misuse on their physical, mental and social well-being
  • Recognise how peer pressure can influence their decisions and learn strategies to cope in these situations

Thinking about Smoking

  • Understand the health risks around smoking and the effect it can have on your body
  • Explore reasons why young people choose to smoke including peer pressure and image.
  • Where to get support to quit

A Healthy Active Lifestyle

  • Be able to discuss the health benefits of physical activity
  • Understand how fitness can enable them to cope with the demands of everyday life and has a positive impact on their health
  • Recognise that physical activity can have a positive impact on their mental health
  • Be able to recognise which activities they enjoy and explain why
  • Discuss what influences their choices around physical activity
  • Recognise  what effects their self-esteem in physical activity including body image, clothing, sweat, ability

Diet

  • Understand the Laws and consequences surrounding possession and supply of drugs including risks to their future if convicted
  • Know where to access support

Relationships and Sex Education

  • Discuss values and expectations and how they expect to be treated in a healthy relationship
  • Discuss and be able to recognise signs of an unhealthy relationship including forms of abuse
  • Understand the consequences of relationship abuse on the abused and abuser and impact on their future
  • Explore the consequences of early sexual activity and the possible pressures to have sex
  • Understand examples of sexual coercion
  • Discuss implications of teenage pregnancy

  • Be able to recognise signs of mental health disorders including stress, anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicide
  • Discuss possible causes of mental health disorders and lear healthy ways to manage these
  • Understand where they can access help and support surrounding mental health issues and can confidently access the NHS/ GP

Alcohol and First Aid

  • Be able to explain how to give emergency first aid and access emergency services
  • Will discuss how to remain safe when out and how to minimise risk

LGBT

  • Understand the difference between sex, gender identity and sexual orientation
  • Understand the accepted and unaccepted terminology associated with these terms
  • Understand the unacceptability of homophobic, transphobic language and understand why we should challenge it

STI’s

  • Understand the risk of unprotected sex in relation to contraction of STI’s
  • Understand how STI’s can be spread/ contracted
  • Understand how to access sexual health services and contraception
  • Understand where they can go if they are at risk
